Book review: I'm Having Twins

My daughter and I received this book in the mail as promised by the publisher and have only two words for it–LOVE IT!

The author of this book, Paris Morris, started publishing her books at the tender age of ten. That alone has struck me in awe. I could not have written like her when I was at that age. When she writes, you writes in finesse! My little preschooler loves the storyline and laughs at little remarks like, “Apparently this two baby thing is called twins. I have been thinking about names for MY twins. Cinderella? Elmo?” From the way she writes, I can tell that Paris Morris is a witty young lady.

My daughter absolutely loves this book because she could relate to all the events that are mentioned in the book. She would glee in delight about the Fourth of July Fireworks and Halloween Trick-or-Treating. A whole lot of it has to do with her experiences in these events and being in San Francisco Bay Area helps a bit. We share the same hood as Paris Morris–we also live near San Francisco, California.

My little girl can’t wait to read the rest of the Twins Book series. I highly recommend this as a good read for girls (and boys). As a parent, I find myself loving to read this book to my preschooler. Both of us enjoy cuddling up in the bed and read I’m Having Twins before bedtime. Why not get one (or more) and enjoy this special bonding time with your little one?

Book Review: One Fifth Avenue

Publisher: Hyperion

ISBN-13: 9781401301613 – ISBN-10: 1401301614

When you see the name Candace Bushnell you will think of Sex in the City TV series and movie or the latest (cancelled) series Jungle Lipstick. The latest book from Candace Bushnell is far from witty Sex in the City or the female sexual power of Jungle Lipstick.

The story plot is centralized on a coveted property landmark, One Fifth Avenue. It talks about the building previous residents’ flamboyant past and its current residents’ cold but true to reality ambitious lifestyles. Bushnell managed to elaborate on her characters by intertwining them with social activities that only audiences in the paparazzi’ed world could relate to. Personally, as a “commoner” it is like an outsider looking into the glass egg. The characters seem to live a lifestyle that “commoners” like us could not imagine be in.

If you try to get a Sex in the City out of One Fifth Avenue, don’t even bother. Bushnell has written a different book and it could be quite refreshing for readers who do not mind getting disgusted with fictitious Paris Hilton like lifestyles.

Book Review: Ariel’s Journey

Ariel’s Journey: A book of friendship, sisterhood and with a dash of kick-ass girl power spirit.

I have always been a fan of tween adventure books. I have an almost full collection of the Famous Five, a few series of the Secret Seven and Nancy Drew. Ariel’s Journey is just like any tween adventure story but with a little twist–a cocktail of time travel,  magical horses and life discovery.

The story started (dreadfully) slowly by elaborating on each young woman from the five main characters. As the chapters flow and to my surprise, I became more intrigue on where the story was heading. With the help of the magical Icelandic horses the five young women were given a golden opportunity to bond as sisters and became (do mind my language) kick ass fighting machines. I find my heart palpitating at the battle scene and with the good triumph over the evil, the ending of the story could not be any better. Now I am totally hooked and I can’t wait for the next story to be published.

Nana Star: A book of joy, hope and kindred spirit

Nana Star: A delightful book of a little girl’s adventure with her new found friend, the lost baby star. It is a book of kindness, courage, love and friendship. If you have a little girl, you couldn’t go wrong reading this story to her.

~written by Elizabeth Sills & Elena Patrice

My little girl absolutely adores this book and every night (without fail) my girl makes a request of having Nana Star read to her before slipping into slumber land. My girl was able to relate to the carefree and independent Nana Star. Most importantly the story has taught her to be thoughtful and helpful.

The doll that was sent along with the book made story-time vivid and fun. We were able to enact the scenes read from the book and guess what? We have many plush toys but she chose only 2 to be sleeping next to her. One is the Wonder Woman toy her Daddy won from an arcade game (ah, my girl is sentimental) and the other is no other than her Nana Star doll. Nana Star is now a constant companion for my little girl every time I tuck her into bed. :)

As a parent I love the fact that the book came with a special CD that not only narrates the story but also has a beautiful Nana Star theme song. At times when I’m tired and don’t feel like reading the book out loud, I let the CD do the job. It’s a great tool for dead-tired parent like me.

Have I gotten you curious about this book? Go to www.nanastar.com. You will be pleasantly surprise. We have.

Here’s Belle giving her thumbs up on Nana Star…
