Web Hosting Rating

Few months back my web hosting was at the verge of expiring and I had to look for a new web hosting provider to host my domain. I have done a few reviews on sites that have web directory but so far the easiest (and most pleasant to the eyes) is from Web Hosting Rating.

This site not only has a directory of web hosting providers, it also categorized the providers into segments. If you wish to find the Top 20 web hosting providers, it’s just one click away, as Web Hosting Rating has siphoned it into a tab of its own. If you wish to see which web hosting provider has the most awards, it is also a click away. It is so easy to maneuver the site.

If you do not wish to be bogged down by flashing ads, technicolor background and just only want to get the facts on each web hosting provider, you should go straight to Web Hosting Rating.

Advice for all bloggers

One word of advice for all bloggers who have their own domain(s): ALWAYS & FREQUENTLY BACKUP YOUR DATABASE. After what I had been through I have developed a phobia. I wonder if Webster dictionary will come up with a new phobia name for the fear of losing a blog’s database.

I’m going crazy now, as in doing daily backup of my WP blog and saving it in my host database. On top of that, I have a backup in an online site (will blog about it later). I’m contemplating in printing each post and have the papers binded like a book. I’m also thinking of copy & paste into my previous (free) WP blog that currently isn’t open for public viewing.

So, yeah, I’ve became quite anal retentive when comes to saving a backup of my WP database.

Rest is what I need

I am mentally worn out by the recent experience. I thought everything was fine and dandy, and easily fixable when I transferred from one web hosting to another. I was so wrong. I didn’t sleep well for the past few nights due to fear. Fear of losing all my posts that I had put sweat and time into it. Fear that my children will not be able to view the journal I’ve documented for them. I’m just glad I was able to retrieve this blog but I still need to figure out one more thing to make this domain transfer 100% successful.

I still have a few days to figure this out. Just thinking about it has already exhausted me. Jon will probably have to go to massage therapy schools to learn some massage techniques ‘cos I really need a good rub now.

We’re back!

We’re up and running…for now. Many of you have left IM messages, email, even phone calls (you know who you are..hehe) about my site being down. This shows I actually have readers. Anyway, it has been a heart-breaking, stressful week (from last Friday till today).

I’m still tweaking my site. So, let’s pray everything will run smoothly soon. It’s good to be back! :)

A possible blog hiatus

I can hear people groaning in the background, “Not another post from her?!” I’d stop writing for the past 4 days and today is like a make-up day for me. Some will call it Blog Withdrawal Syndrome.

I’m actually in the process of transferring my domain to another host. I’m afraid I might face a down time (I’ve been told it can last up to 7 days). Imagine 7 days not being able to update a blog?! If only I have the brains to set up a local server host, then I don’t have to worry about this “down time.” I could probably just hook up a server with some KVM switches and voilà! But then, what do I know about servers. ;) I might as well pay someone to host it and be worry free.

Web Hosting Directory

Wanting to get your own domain and don’t know where to host it? Worse of all, would you know which hosting site offers the best deal for you need? No? Well, now there is a site that helps you figure everything out. Web Hosting Bluebook is like the Kelly bluebook for searching details on all website hosting sites.

I find Web Hosting Bluebook useful because they have a resourceful Hosting Directory and even features Forum for its users to interact. What I really like about is the reviews and rating for each hosting site. Take Host Gator for now. If you do not wish to bind yourself with annual contract, Host Gator is best for you. There is no contract and you renew by monthly. With a 600GB disk space for $7.95, no contract, with 45-day money back guarantee and 24/7 support, this deal isn’t that bad after all.

If you are really serious into finding the best hosting site that fits your needs, you should seriously consider looking up the reviews done by Web Hosting Bluebook.

It’s fixed!

YaY! I found the solution to my problem. I had itchy fingers and editted my blog address in the “Options” tab. By doing that, it had caused me 2 days of heartache and I had probably added more gray hairs onto my sifu. :P

Luckily, whoisbaby has also offered to give a helping hand and that’s why I’m still up at this odd hour. I went to bed around 10-ish but my mind was restless and I just had to fix this problem. A few of you had emailed me about not able to comment and had informed that my post(s) was reverting to the main page whenever you’ve click on it. Thanks for the heads up!

So, how did I fix the problem? I was at whoisbaby’s site and from there I went to the  WP forum (don’t ask me why I didn’t do that earlier. I did and I’m blaming it on my pregnant hormones that cause blur vision. ). I went down the list and I found this. How the hell I knew it had something to do with Permalinks? I remember my sifu mentioned that; so, I just gave it a try. After reading the discussion a little light bulb lit up! I then remember I did that stupid mistake and quickly changed it. Now my blog is working! Woohoo!

Okay, don’t mind me, I’m gonna go grin like a silly fool…
