This is the excerpt (in case it gets deleted):

how to flirt in Chinese? (mountain view)

Date: 2007-03-28, 12:36AM PDTHi,
after a few years’ learning written and spoken Mandarin, my conversational ability is pretty good for every-day conversation and dealing with the basic necessities of life in a foreign country, such as restaurants, hotels, taxis, etc.

So on a basic level, I’m looking for Chinese/English exchange.

But I’m ready for a more interesting challenge: learning the cultural nuances of flirting. I realize that this isn’t limited to spoken languge, but encompasses a wide spectrum of gestures and postures — body language.
But I’m sure there are also some interesting linguistic lessons, such as the Mandarin equivalent to “haven’t we met before?”

In exchange I could teach you some of the basics of flirting in English, US-style.

Shouldn’t matter too much, but in case you’re curious, I’m a pretty tall (over 6′), athletic 185 lbs, reasonably handsome American guy.
So I anticipate that our lessons should mimic reality fairly well if you are correspondingly cute. :)

Tag: Why do I marry a guy from the Bay Area, California?

Adoi! Triple tagged by Beckysmum, Babykhong AND Anna!

Okay, here goes (be forewarned that you might suddenly get hit by a ballooned up head; yea, that head belongs to my husband’s)…

1. He is a lengjai (Cantonese: good looking guy). Of course must be a lengjai, or else how to make out with him? :P Ok ok, looks aren’t THAT important but if you live around this area, my hubby can pass as a lengjai.

2. He is a US citizen. That means, save me some moolah…no need to apply working permit (some companies can be very cheap and not foot the lawyer’s fee), then greencard, etc. Just say I do, then can get PR right away. Easy peasy.

3. He was and still is my chauffeur. Before we got married I was still studying in SJSU and he would bring me out grocery shopping or catch a quick bite. He loaned me his old CRX before and anything belonged to him, he gave it to me. So, how not to marry him kan?

4. Have I ever mentioned we met online? Call it fate or destiny, both of us travelled across the sea and met thru IRC. I fell in love with San Francisco and he happens to be in the Bay Area, so, I guess it is just meant to be.

5. He treats me well (and he claims he spoils me too much) and is marriage material type. Greencard stamped on the forehead and marriage material too…must grab fast fast, kan? Um, actually greencard ain’t that important to me.

6. We share the common interest: Food. We are quite adventurous when comes to food. Y’know, you can’t really marry a guy if you don’t have common interest(s). Since Bay Area is so diversed, we can find all sorts of food here except those weird gamey ones like snakes, flying fox, etc.

7. Everyone from my immediate family & relatives voted YES. Yup, everyone loves him from the very first encounter. I guess he gave a great 1st impression and most importantly he is funny. My mom told me everyone had raised their hands and legs and she had no choice but to agree to give my hand to him..hehe.

8. Like I said before, he is lengjai; so, that’s a guarantee for good looking offsprings. LOL! He has a great sense of humor too. That’s what I like about him. He makes me laugh.

9. We share a common goal, that is to work hard and by working hard, we can offer better things to our kid(s). Yes, even before we married, we know we’re gonna have kids together.

10. Most importantly I love my hubby or else I wouldn’t have stayed on at Bay Area and be thousand of miles away from my immediate family members. (See hon, this is the sacrifice I made.)

Tag: Am I THAT weird?

Siwwypig & Ms Fairface wanna know 6 weird things about me. Sorry Siwwypig, I don’t have my dig cam on me…so, I’ll just do one of the tags you’d tagged me.

Gee, this is a tough one ‘cos I think I’m quite normal..haha..I resorted to ask my hubby about my weird habits..

Vivien Lai: honey
lotsa_fat: yea?
Vivien Lai: is there anything weird about me?
lotsa_fat: what u mean?
Vivien Lai: like do i have any weird habits?
lotsa_fat: ths is weird
lotsa_fat: not really
lotsa_fat: I am the weirdo in the family
lotsa_fat: :P
Vivien Lai: LOL
Vivien Lai: seriously, anything weird?
Vivien Lai: i think i’m quite normal leh
lotsa_fat: yea lor
lotsa_fat: u are

See? Even the closest person to me said I’m normal. So, I guess I am not THAT weird. :P Haha..I know this is quite potong stim (Malay: equivalent to party pooper) but seriously, I don’t have much out of the world habits. So am I a boring person then? :D

I think a lot of ppl had done this tag except: Dolphinitis, Domestic Goddess, AnnieQ, Jessie, Babykhong & Princess Mom.

Protected: Protected: Mexico cruise – Part I

 Hola!

The cruise trip to Mexico was fun. Personally, 7 days on the boat is just right. Anything more than that, I think all of us will be bored to death. Don’t get me wrong, the service and food were good but a little too repetitive for us.

We took the Princess cruise and I believe all cruise lines are pretty much the same. We almost had the Home Alone scene on our way to the airport. If you haven’t watch Home Alone before, rent the video and watch the scene where the family members were frantically rushing out the house, screaming away at the airport, etc. Yup, we almost did all of those..and the most embarrassing part was to hear the intercom paging for the owner of the Nvidia hats & blue handbag. Yupz, that owner was me.

Anyway, let’s have the photos do all the talking…

These pics were taken after all the commotions and we all look so happy ‘cos we had coffee.

The check-in process took forever ‘cos our pre-registered infos didn’t show up in their system. The lady who was checking us in was quite old matured and it took her a long time type our infos. Halfway typing, her mouse konked out on her. While she went to get help, i.e. trying to flag her IT guy; Jon exchanged her mouse with the mouse from the laptop that was next hers. See? No need to flag down her IT guy, my man also know how to solve her laptop problem. Anyway, we got everything squared away but still have to wait. We were given a number tag and had to wait for our numbers to be called. Once the number was called, we would have to wait in line for another security screening before boarding the ship.

Lucky for us, we have Belle. Babies on strollers and folks who needed assistance were told to wait on another line and that line was shorter. We boarded the ship before the rest of our party.

Since Belle didn’t get a discounted rate for being an infant/toddler, we decided to use our cabin to the fullest. As you can see, we have a double bed but we told our steward to pull down an extra bed (from the ceiling). That way, daddy slept on top and Belle slept with me on the double bed.

We were greeted by our steward, Rolan, outside our statesroom. He happened to be there and welcomed us.  There was also a plate of cookies to welcome us. I was starving by that time and gulped down 2 cookies..hehe.

We were really starving when all of us got onto the ship. Every passenger we met on the elevator was telling us how hungry they were and some of them didn’t even have breakfast. We decided to meet up with my folks, in-laws and sister at Deck 14 for some grubs. They were so many people at the bbq pit. Everyone was in line for the burgers, hotdogs, sodas…we were like a bunch of hungry cows.

After lunch all the passengers were asked to be in our statesroom to get ready for the mandatory emergency drill. Again, we were lucky to have Belle with us. We didn’t have to stand with the rest of the passengers in the lounge rooms. We were told to sit comfortably in their computer room. Belle had so much fun pounding on the keyboard and moving the mouse. She even let us zip her up in the life jacket!

After we had our safety drill, we went back to our statesroom. Our room has a window and the view wasn’t too bad despite having the lifeboat obstructing part of the view. Belle the monkey queen was in action again…

Belle doing her “ugly face” impersonation.

Here are some photos of the cruise ship Diamond Princess. Jon took this while I was napping with Belle.

People were so anxious to dip into the pool. Look at the crowd (upper left pic)! It was really people mountain people sea, ????!

to be continued…

Chinese New Year 2007

Back-dated pics taken during Chinese New Year of 2007.

Belle pretty in red. Aunty Michelle got this for her and 2 other lovely dresses. It was a cold CNY morning and we decided to put another shirt and pants on her. This samfu is made from satiny material; thus, too cold to be worn during this time of the year. Doesn’t her long sleeve shirt matches the samfu?
