What sleep? Part 2

So, how did it go last night? At least I get to sleep from 1am to 4am. We woke her up for her midnight feed, which she took 3oz of BM from the bottle. By the time I burped her, changed her diaper and clothes it was 1am. I have no difficulty when comes to getting her eat, it’s the burping part that takes forever to achieve.

She woke up meowing like a cat (her cries sound like kittens meowing) and I fed her instantly. She burped immediately and laid a #2. I did the biggest mistake of changing her diapers before she finishes her milk (she needs to be burped halfway thru her meal). The wet cotton ball touched her anus and I felt a swoosh of air came out from it. I went, “Oh-oh!” Before I could grab a piece of tissue…her poop flew out like a projectile! Luckily the mess was in her swaddle jumper and not on my bed.

By the time I cleaned and fed her my other boob, she was wide awake. :( I put her on my chest hoping she would fall asleep by listening to my heartbeat (Belle loved to sleep on my chest when she was around Cassie’s age). Did Cassie sleep? Heck no! She hated sleeping on my chest. She wanted me to cradle her instead. When her eyelids finally drooped, I quickly put her on her cot. In less than a minute, the girl cried to be held. Haaaiiiz! By 6am I was very geram* already. I laid her next to me and let her suck while I drifted into lala land.

I made a mistake by being a human pacifier when I was nursing Belle and it looks like I can’t escape being a human pacifier for Cassie. I tried the paci but she still prefers the real nipple (tell me one baby who doesn’t). I foresee long nights ahead of me. *sigh*

*geram = frustrated

What sleep?

I’m Exhausted (yes, with a capitol E)! Cassie decided to be a night owl last night. She had her night bottle-feeding (4 oz!!!) around 11-ish and Jon managed to put her to bed while I stay with Belle. Cassie slept until 3am and wanted her next feeding. This girl sure can eat a lot despite having 4oz of milk less than 4 hours ago. Take a wild guess what time I get to sleep again?

Hint: The sun was rising and the early birds were up chirping merrily.

I think it was around 5-ish.in the morning..and the girl still refuse to sleep! I even let her cry it off ‘cos I ran out of all option. I fed her, changed the diaper, changed her shirt, wrap and re-wrap the blankie around her and even held the pacifier for her while she suck on it. In the end, I put her on the bed with me and breastfed her while lying there. And that was after I let her cry for 30 minutes. I know for now my girl has a strong set of lungs. I was so exhausted I didn’t even know when she stop sucking.

I was TKO’ed by Cassie (along with the runny nose, cough and headache).

Luckily I popped in 2 Tylenol pills before I sleep last night; otherwise, I don’t think I could pull myself up from the bed. Today’s mission is to wake Cassie up frequently…or else it is gonna be another sleepless night for me.

Belle & Cassie

Whenever Belle comes home from daycare or grandparents house she insists to carry her sister.

Doesn’t Belle look older here? We know for sure she loves her sister a lot. If only she could adjust to her new status–being an older sister–things would be much better.

Cassie’s face being squashed by Belle.

We have to keep an eye on Belle constantly ‘cos she still doesn’t know how to be gentle towards newborns. It is tough to segregrate her from Cassie but sometimes we have to. Belle is at the age where she can bring germs back into the house.

Ignore my hair…it’s bad hair day due to not washing my hair for couple of days. As you can see, my girl, Belle is still very manja. Here’s a funny pic where Belle wants to nurse her mei mei. :lol: Whenever she does that she will say to her sister, “Food! Food!”

In case you’re wondering…what does Belle do when she’s not throwing a tantrum or disturb me?

Hi-def video conference

I used to travel all over United States and Canada to present training materials to my customers. Back then the company I worked with did not believe in video communications. It is true that meeting the customers face-to-face is crucial but high air fares and travel budget cut it is quite impossible to meet customers frequently. If only my company would use LifeSize.

LifeSize channels high definition IP Video Conferencing at an affordable price. If your company faces the same budget cut as my company, why not consider LifeSize to reach your customers without pinching the pocketbook.

We’re sick

Belle brought the cough germ back. She’s coughing. Jon is coughing (he has it the worse ‘cos he has runny nose too). Worse of all, I’m coughing too! I hope the antibodies in the breastmilk will fend off the germ for Cassie. Luckily, both Popo and Gong Gong are fine. Even Ya-ya fell ill too since last week. :(

Protected: Cassie’s 1st Hair Wash

Can you tell she loves to have her hair washed? :) Her face looked so syiok and content, hor? I have already started to give her baths every morning and she loves it so much. I’ll probably enroll her into baby swimming classes this coming summer. Her jie jie loves swimming too…hopefully they have both classes same time, same day.

Protected: Cassie’s birth

I’m quite lazy to write a long post about Cassie’s birth. So, I’m just gonna jot down the important facts chronologically.

9-ish am- Arrived at Stanford Hospital. Check-in was a breeze. Coincidently we got the same birthing room (Room 1) when I had Belle. We were assigned 2 nurses, Beth & Tina. Usually it is 1 nurse to 1 patient but one of them was under training. Took them forever (seemed like it) to get me ready, hook up the IV, fetal monitors, etc.

10:10am – Pitocin drip began. Dr. Swenson did come in before the nurses started the IV.

11-ish am - Contraction began. Jon IM’ed Vickie and she said it was pretty fast for the Pitocin to kick in. She said hers took 2 hours to kick in. Hunger sunk in and I so wanted to eat but I was only allowed to drink juice or water.

12-ish pm - Contraction grew stronger and more frequent. I couldn’t take the pain and told Jon to buzz the nurse in. Nurse came in and told us she had already requested Epidural for us. I guess she knew I was gonna opt of it (since I had Epi for my previous delivery). We waited quite a while for the anaesthesiologist to come and were told the anaesthesiologist team was busy with a C-sect patient. I was in so much pain and remember asking Jon, “Where is that damn doctor?!” :lol: Oh, as for the dialation, I went from 4cm to 8cm within 2 hours.

12:30pm – Jon called his dad the 2nd time to let him know the baby might be coming out earlier than expected. My FIL was gonna bring my MIL and my mom over during his lunch hours. The anaesthesiologist gave me the Epi around this time. He touched my spinal nerve while inserting the catheter and I felt sharp pain. Luckily it went away.

12:45pm – PIL & Mom arrived. Dad stayed home just in case we need him to cook. Furthermore, my Dad is too chicken to see me in labor..hehe. As for the Epi, it just didn’t feel right this time. I could still move my legs and didn’t get much numbing sensation. It helped ease the pain minimally but I could still feel each contraction.

1:15pm – The pain grew intense. I was holding on the the railing and squeezed it whenever there was a contraction. Administered a booster shot but it didn’t help numb the pain.

1:30pm – Told Jon I have the pangsai (Hokkien: pooping) sensation. I had the feeling the baby is already in the birthing canal. Told the nurse about it but she brushed us off and told us it was too early. She gave us another booster shot of the Epi. Hmmph! In the end, she called Dr. Swenson ‘cos I was in so much pain. Dr. Swenson came in with the anaesthesiologist. Dr. Swenson checked my cervix and said, “Yup, she’s ready to push!” The baby was already crowning (See?! A mother knows best). The anaestesiologist administered another dose of Epi but by that time it was too late. I was ready to push. It took the nurses few minutes to prep up and I had requested to have a mirror just so I could view the birth of my baby.

1:48pm – Cassie came out after 3 pushes. Yeah, it was that quick. :lol: My mom joked it was so fast it was as though I was laying eggs.

Here are more photos…

My first encounter with Cassie.

Both grandmas were there to experience the birth.

Length: a little over 19 inches.

This is new! We didn’t have this monitor screen when Belle was born.

Cassie loves to open one eye to peek at us. Her sister did that too. :) Oh, Daddy gave Popo the honor to cut the umbilical cord.

Yay! No more heartburn, no more constipation, no more backache…

Dr. Swenson & us.

Nai Nai, Popo & Cassie

Ya-ya came over after he got the news.

Daddy get to be present when they wheel Cassie into the newborn unit for extensive check-up and bath. As for me, I was wheeled to the recovery room. Coincidently, it was the same room I stayed when I had Belle: Room 131. Unfortunately, I had to room-in with another mom.

A hearty cry from little girl. She is a little better than Belle. When Belle cried she turned purple-faced.

Cassie’s first bath.

Mmmm…I loooove getting my hair washed…

What do you think? Do you think I have more hair than my jie jie?

Jon brought everyone over in the late evening. This is Belle’s first encounter with Cassie.

Grandmas & Grand-daughters.

Right after I met my nurse (Nurse Emelie), I told her my intention to stay for one night only. I had also mention that to Dr. Swenson and she was okay with it as long as the pediatrician has check on Cassie and releases her. Luckily I had opted to stay for one night ‘cos the baby next to us cried so much during the night. I didn’t get any sleep at all. Thankfully, Cassie was a deep sleeper and she wasn’t bothered by it.

We were lucky that Dr. Martino was doing her rounds on Saturday. Cassie’s weight dropped to 6 lbs 1 oz that day but Dr. Martino told us to follow up on Monday. All we had to do was wait for the girl to poop. We waited for half a day and the girl still didn’t poop. In the end, Dr. Martino told the nurse to insert a dispository to stimulate her pooping sensation. Within seconds Cassie laid a big one! We were released from the hospital around 5.30pm.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Daddy didn’t get to be in any photos during that day ‘cos he was the camera-man. Even till today, he hasn’t really taken any photo with Cassie. He has been busy keeping Belle occupied. He is sucha great dad…that’s why I love him so much. :)
A visit from the Woods
[backdated post]
Whenever my parents visit us, we will make a point to meet up with my Aunt Shirley and her daughters, Eunice and Lydia. It is either we visit them or they visit us. Aunt Shirley is my dad’s cousin and that makes Eunice & Lydia my second cousins. Last weekend we invited them over for tea ‘cos that’s the only chance Angela get to meet them.
Lydia loves to play with Belle a lot and it’s great for us. That means we don’t have to keep an eye on the Monkey Queen..hehe…Here’s Aunt Lydia…
Guess who’s underneath the blankie? Read the rest of this entry »
